Start Your Day Right with A Healthy Breakfast

Facebooktwittergoogle_plusredditpinterestlinkedinmail

You’ve probably heard the quote “Breakfast is the most important meal of the day”, so many times that it has begun to lose its meaning. However, it’s not just a myth.

There’s a reason that quote is so popular. Breakfast has numerous benefits for your mind and body such as:

  • It decreases appetite
  • Helps you lose weight
  • Controls blood sugar
  • Stables energy levels
  • and so much more!

Eating breakfast can help get your day off to a good start and help you stay energized. When you sleep, your digestive system slows down. Many people eat lightly or skip food completely in the morning, eat heavier in the afternoon, and finish off with a big dinner (not to mention desserts too!). There is a problem with this strategy as it deprives you of food when you need it most, which is in the morning. If you skip breakfast, your body stays in this slower state, maybe feeling light-headed, slowing your metabolism and lead to weight gain.

Start Your Day Right!

Eating a healthy breakfast can refuel your body, and help you eat less later in the day. When you skip breakfast, you are more likely to overeat later in the day. Consuming a healthy balance of carbohydrates, fats, and protein can fill you up, and satisfy your hunger.

Breakfast is not just an extra meal. It serves several purposes in maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Here are quick and healthy breakfast ideas you can try:

Choco-Nana Smoothie: (serves 1)

1 1/2 cups of dairy-free milk

1 cup spinach

1/2 frozen banana

1 scoop chocolate protein powder

directions: blend all the ingredients in a blender until smooth. Transfer to a glass and serve.

Simple Avocado Toast: (serves 1)

1 slice of Ezekiel bread

1/2 avocado

1 teaspoon lemon juice

1 tablespoon olive oil

pinch of salt

pink of pepper

directions: mash avocado with a fork. Add lemon juice, salt pepper. Spread the avocado spread on the Ezekiel bread, drizzle with olive oil and serve.
